Bocetos: the story

Hip-Hop is also Puerto Rican history! And to tell that story, Rafo created Bocetos: El Podcast—the first podcast systematically exploring the history of Hip-Hop from the Puerto Rican perspective. In its first season, he offered a careful examination of the origins of a culture that sprang up from the streets of the South Bronx in the early 1970s—a borough heavily populated by Puerto Ricans at the time. Through a series of interviews with key figures such as Vivian Vázquez, Joe Conzo, Raquel Z. Rivera, Willie MB Estrada, BOM5, NAC143, Flaco Navaja, Juan Otero Garabís, William García, and Black Rhythm, the podcast tackled themes of emigration, identity, and race. Equally important, it provided undeniable proof that Puerto Ricans have been a foundational part of Hip-Hop since day one. But the heart of this project lies in telling the story of how Hip-Hop emerged on the island of Puerto Rico. As part of the ongoing investigation for De la Salsa al Hip-Hop, Rafo is now exploring when and where each element of this culture arrived on the island, and who the pioneers were that gave it life. Join him on this journey! Gracias.

Check out season one, yo!
